Tim Gonino
Field Coordinator
About Tim
Tim grew up just off the coast of northern Florida where he spent most of his childhood days playing in the ocean or the great St. John’s River. As Tim reached adolescence, he began noticing many of his peers struggling to find support in managing their mental health as they transition into adulthood. While Tim was attending college at the University of Georgia, he took what he was noticing and established a support group for college age students with a goal of providing a space to connect on the deeper level they were all seeking. Tim worked as an outdoor recreation guide at the University of Georgia and graduated with an undergraduate degree in psychology.
As an outdoor recreation guide, Tim began to witness the potential that positive outdoor experiences have in developing confidence, self reliance, and a greater sense of connection. After college, Tim continued his career in the outdoors by living in the forests and deserts of the southwest United States doing conservation work for the US Forest and Park Service.
In January of 2020, Tim began working at Blue Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness where he spent most of his time primarily mentoring young adult students. As a field staff at BRTW, Tim valued creating a safe and vulnerable environment for students to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and build skills to succeed in adulthood. After his first year at BRTW, Tim traveled to California and Hawaii working in schools and another treatment program along the way. He returned to Blue Ridge in June of 2022 and has provided thoughtful guidance and lighthearted relationships to countless students developing the skills necessary to tackle life’s challenges.
In the role of field coordinator, Tim has been excelling in mentoring because of his belief that there is always room to grow and more to learn, whether you are the teacher or the student. He adamantly believes in setting a high standard of care in all of our groups and maintains that standard through insightful advice and support to field staff. His dog Charlie brings fresh energy and companionship to our students along the way.
